As I've continued to work through
some of those problems, I've learned that in addition to some issues and
frustrations, she left me many valuable life lessons and multiple
blessings. Along the way, I've also discovered some useful tools to help
all of us on this particular journey. I'm not going to try to make my
mother perfect in retrospect. She could really be a "stinker"
but she was mine and I love her just the way she was.
As
most of us do, I found myself quoting my mother over the years,
especially as I raised my children. When I became a counselor, I saw so
many children actually damaged and wounded by their parents, I began to
realize what great parents I really had and how much I had learned from
them.
Recently,
I became even more aware of what I had learned from my mother and have
felt led to share this with others. Her lessons are tested by time and
fire and I share them with you because my heart goes out to every woman
with unresolved mother-daughter issues, and because that’s what my
mother would have
done. After all, life is too short to do anything less.
With
all my heart,
Lillian
